REQ: G4 RAM sticks
(too old to reply)

Just in case there are people out there reading this: I wonder if
anybody has any old sticks of G4 Ram. Like the SE/30 RAM I haven't
wanted to chuck out. Silly really, but you think - maybe ...

Anyway, I've been given a freebie MDD G4 with the original two sticks
of RAM, one of which is dead, so the problem is I can't find out if the
machine is working properly - properly enough to buy some decent RAM.

I'm in Sydney, Eastern Suburbs, and can collect, or provide Mailbox
Data.

Just thought I'd ask. Thanks

Isn't just plain old PC-100?

Thanks for your reply, Barry. The various web pages (LowEndMac & Co)
say PC2700. However I'm beginning to suspect the machine may be a dodo.

Can you look up the numbers on the existing RAM?

I have a G3 laptop, two G4 towers, and two G5 systems.
One of the G5s is an Xserve dual 2.3 Ghz G5.

Sadly, Barry, no I can't. The thing won't boot. In fact the mains light
goes off the moment you release it, although the fans will start up.
Nothing happens thereafter. But hey, it's not the end of the world.

I'm thinking of getting a G5, as I can't afford an Intel Pro. I have a
Macbook if I need anything Intel, but even that's not going to run 10.7
so it looks like I'll stay behind the times for a while. No problemo.

Thanks for your comments, sounds like you have a bigger place than mine!

What makes you think it is the RAM? I had a B&W G3 which did this for a
while. I left it unpowered for some time (months) and then turned it on
out of curiosity and it worked. Maybe try resetting PRAM or power
system, or even replacing the internal battery.

David, the RAM story came from the donor, plus - if the m/c was to be
of any use to me - it would have needed more RAM. But I'll take your
advice and try again in a few weeks.

Thanks.
