I managed to aquire a G3 Ibook from an online auction at
well below the going rate because it was sold as unable
to test because it would not boot from the optical drive.
I discovered that was because it had an OF password.
I did some Googling and found out how to clear the
password. The trick is to press the power button while
holding down the three keys to clear the NVRAM.
Its normally not possible to clear NVRAM while there
is an OF password, but if the amount of RAM is
changed the NVRAM can be cleared.
Who would have thought of that?
My Ibook is now fully working.
It has a 1.33 Ghz G4,
768 MB RAM,
60 GB HD,
A slot loading DVD burner,
and an Airport card.
