It would require an ADC to DVI adapter, at a guess.

Thanks. Some on eBay for around $160.
May as well buy a new monitor.

I have one of those ADC monitors and although the USB component doesn't
work (nor do any of the controls!) its image is very crisp, unlike the
"new monitor" I bought instead of the eBay cables!

BTW, I'll just point out the OP needs a DVI to ADC adapter, to be more
precise.

I nearly got caught that way myself. I was looking to buy
an ADC to DVI converter until I realised it was not what
I need.
I take it that it is not feasible to substitute a video card
with an ADC connector due to the power requirements.

Re: the card, sorry I can't help on that one. My guess would be a "no"
as the G5 is physically so different. All the connection solutions I've
seen have a mains feed, hence the price I suppose. I run mine from a G4
(MDD) which still has the ADC option.

Good luck.

My G5 tower with duel 1.8 Ghz has an ADC card and is the one
I was using the ADC monitor with. I believe Apple stopped using
ADC because of the power requirements of larger CRT monitors.

The dual and quad-core G5 machines used PCIE cards, not the early PCI or
PCI-X cards. None of the PCIE cards for a G5 that I am aware of came
with ADC, they were all DVI. See, for example,

Thanks but it only seems to confirm what I already knew.
DVI to ADC adapters are way more expensive on Amazon,
up to several hundred dollars.

No matter. I am using the quad with a 15" VGA monitor
through a DVI to VGA adapter.

Ouch that does seem somewhat expensive.

You need to shop around a bit more. Here's one in the US (posts to
Aus) for Aus$32.99 + shipping Aus$18.29 approx. (depends on exchange
rate on day) roughly a 3rd of the prices you were seeing.

That's ADC to DVI. I need DVI to ADC which is a lot more
complicated and hence more expensive.
ADC supplies power to monitor so a DVI to ADC converter
needs a power supply.

did I spy but one of these puppy's ;-)

Nope, probably not worth it. I've done a little research on it. It
being a Dr. Bott DVI-ADC adapter cable Its apparently designed to be
used with a Macintosh Cube G4 and the odd 4 pinned power cable is
compatable with the Cube's PSU... If it once came with its own PSU,
this essential part is missing.

All pics I've seen of this particular part don't show a PSU but that
funky plug has to fit into something.

Sorry about that.

If the power supply is the only problem would you be willing
to part with it for a few dollars?
I might be able to rig up a power supply.

Hi, the linked ebay pic in your other post shows a PSU and its the
Apple branded version of the adapter.

The one I have is Dr. Bott's 3rd party adapter aka the "DVIator"
(Google; Dr Bott DVIator psu) for more info).

You're welcome to have it tho'. I've sent an email to your address in
your post's headers. If its a genuine addy, check your (hotmail) spam
bin if my email's not visible to you.

It does need the missing PSU tho'... this paragraph describes your
two options (Dr Bott's PSU or Apple's):

"Dr Bott DVIator power supply for Apple ADC powered monitors. Lets
you use an Apple ADC monitor with a DVI output. Clever design uses an
Apple Cube power supply with a special cable to integrate USB, DVI
and power for the monitor. Equivalent to the Apple M8661LL power
supply."

Yes. What sort of power supply does it use?

There is one at
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/120732698829?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
It says Comes with OEM power cord but I don't know if it
has an inbuilt power supply.

What do want for it and what do you think would be the
postage to Newcastle NSW?
